This is an attempt to list all the main equations that shaped modern astronomy.

Eq:1

Ideal gas law

relates gas pressure with number of molecules, density, mass and temperature

Eq:2

Newton’s law of gravity

quantifies gravitational force w.r.t mass and distance of interacting bodies

Eq:3

Gravitational potential energy

potential energy possessed by interacting bodies at a distance

Eq:4

Kinetic energy

kinetic energy contained in a moving body

Eq:5

Virial theorem

relates potential and kinetic energy of a self-gravitating body

Eq:6

Energy of a photon

relates to it wavelength or frequency and planck’s constant

Eq:7

Wien’s displacement law

relates peak wavelength of thermal emission spectrum with surface temperature

Eq:8

Stefan’s law

relates luminosity of a radiating body with surface area and temperature

Eq:9

Electric force

eq is in same spirit as gravitation force

Eq:10

Intensity of received energy or Flux

relates flux with luminosity and distance

Eq:11

Cosmological red shift

doppler shift in frequency with relative velocity of source

Eq:12

Ideal gas equation of energy

doppler shift in frequency with relative velocity of source

Eq:13

Photon recombination at sun core

relates average number of photons with distance (Δr) and mean free path (l)

Eq:14

schwarzschild radius of a black hole

relates schwarzschild radius with mass of black hole and speed of light

Eq:15

Hubble’s equation

relates recessional velocity with distance
